(All of us are born curious. Some of us actively practice it, irrespective of age. Our Curious Cases series gives you a glimpse into the minds of such curious folk. May they rub off you the right way!)

Name Shom Biswas

Location Bangalore, India

What I do I read, I write, I do math, I collect Wisdens, I waste time fussing over my fantasy football team, I heckle quizmasters at pub quizzes, I live in hope that this year, THIS YEAR, shall be Arsenal's year.

On the Curiosity scale, I am... Plain Curious

What I prefer to consume (in descending order of preference): Audio (podcasts rule!) > Newspapers (thank you Flipboard) > Books (here's to > ... eh, and some social media. Some movies and TV shows, but I go mostly by recommendation with those.

Number of books and movies I get through in a year ~25 books. ~10-15 odd movies.

One book I'd recommend to a friend / colleague: 'India Discovered' by John Keay.

My best source for book / movie / website, the Flipboard app

One movie / show I've loved that hardly anyone else has watchedK-Pax.

I am currently reading:The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey (on kindle). Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World' by Jack Weatherford (on audio)

One place on Earth that I am very curious about: India. I have seen very little of my country. And that's a shame. Big cities and tourist spots add up to ... not much.

Website(s) that I get a lot of useful info from: Will a podcast channel do? Backstory. Totally worth your time.

One topic I am super-opinionated about: I am not very opinionated. I love a good debate, but I surely know less than you about many things. So teach me.

People come to me to find out what I think about these topics: Detective fiction, sports literature, outsourcing, pubs in Bangalore

What I prefer to use (in descending order of preference) Facebook > LinkedIn > Quora > Twitter

The strangest food item I have eaten Deep fried ice cream. Pretty good actually

If I could spend a day in the mind, body, and shoes of a person, it would be...Arsene Wenger.

One interesting / fun fact I recently learnt: L Frank Baum of the Wizard of Oz fame was extremely influential in the development of shopping malls / departmental stores in the US. He even launched the country's first trade journals on shop window design.

I stay up-to-date by doing this... Reading or listening to stuff on my phone.

One interesting/fun fact about myself I have been playing the premier league fantasy football game for the last ten odd years. This year is my sabbatical.

I express my curiosity by doing these things: Listening.

The one thing I am very interested in Antique books. Preservation, binding, valuation, auctioning, the lot.

A habit or skill I'd love to acquire: Sleeping on time.

A movie or TV show that taught me something newESPN 30 for 30

I would love to do this at least once Write a novel.

People I would like to ask all these same questions to: Quite a few of my quizzing and literary friends, I guess, because they are rather knowledgeable, interesting people, and I'd like to read their answers.

Curiosity is important to my work because... ... when I am curious, I understand quickly, and I understand better.

My curiosity tip Ask for directions, even if you don't follow them.
